President: Judy Stone - In the early stages of Judy's career she lived and worked overseas in England and Thailand where she taught in the International School system. Upon returning to the states, she worked as a high school guidance counselor developing and implementing a Career Shadowing Program for minority students in Fairfax County Public Schools. Judy left the school system in 1988 to begin her family-counseling career under the supervision of Jay Haley and Cloe Madanes, using the strategic therapy model working with court ordered families. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Marriage & Family Therapist she built an individual and group practice supervising individuals in the licensure process and established and directed Counseling, Training & Mediation Services in Northern Virginia. From 1992 to 1998 Judy worked in executive position for Managed Behavioral Health Organizations where she monitored national, state and community-level projects to implement and use behavioral health care quality assessment activities, with emphasis on the Medicaid environment.
 

Past President: Rip McAdams - Rip is an Assistant Professor at The College of William & Mary. He is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Virginia, and serves as a Faculty Supervisor and family therapist with the New Horizons Family  Counseling Center, a collaborative venture between William & Mary and a number of local school systems to provide counseling services to the families of children identified by the schools as having emotional and/or  behavioral difficulties. Prior to coming to William & Mary, Rip was employed for nearly 15 years by Lutheran  Family Services of the Carolinas and Virginia where he developed and directed the delivery of residential, day  treatment, and treatment foster careservices for emotionally disturbed and physically aggressive children. His many years of individual work with children and adolescents have impressed upon him of the necessity involving  families in the treatment process if there is to be any hope of lasting success. He has been a member of the  VAMFC Board for four years and was President during 1999-2000.

Secretary - Donna Kaiser - Donna Kaiser, PhD, LPC, LMFT, ATR-BC, recently completed doctoral study at the College of William and Mary and is a full-time outpatient therapist at Prince William Family Counseling in Woodbridge. She is also adjunct faculty at George Washington University and Virginia Tech. Donna has worked in several inpatient and outpatient settings including home-based family counseling, inpatient psychiatric and residential adolescent treatment centers, substance abuse partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment programs, and the New Horizons Family Counseling Center at William and Mary. Donna’s current interests include research on cognitive developmental theory and theoretical applications to individual and family therapy, education and supervision, and the links between developmental change and the creative process.
 

Treasurer: Juliann Smith - Juliann Smith, LPC, NCC is a full-time Senior Case Manager and Mental Health Case Manager with Virginia Premier Health Plan, Inc. and is currently completing the writing of her dissertation as a doctoral candidate at Virginia Tech. She has over 17 years experience working in the human services field providing inpatient services at two different private psychiatric hospitals, case management for the severely and chronically mentally ill at Chesapeake Community Services Board, and outpatient counseling at Radford and Virginia Tech's University Counseling Center. Juliann received her Master's degree in Community Counseling through the Counselor Education program at Radford University. She has a strong interest in working with couples and families, disaster and trauma survivors, in the areas of grief and bereavement, group counseling, clinical supervision, and counselor development and education.
 

Student Member:  Hugh Jackson - Hugh is currently a working on a Ph.D. in Counselor Education at William and Mary.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Master’ degree from Campbell University.  His work history includes providing substance abuse treatment through individual and group counseling, as well as providing in-home services to a dual-diagnosis client base and their families. Hugh's current research interests are in the area of family counseling and especially in work with families/couples in high-stress occupations.
 

Board Member at Large: Wally Scott - Wally Scott received his doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in the Marriage and Family Therapy program. He has worked with children and families for over 20 years in a number of different settings: social services, residential care, community mental health, court service and family service. Most recently, he was the Director of Counseling at Family Service of Roanoke Valley for the past 10 years. He is currently the Director for the Center for Counseling and Student Development at Radford University in Virginia. He is a licensed Professional Counselor and a Marriage and Family Therapist in Virginia. He has presented his ideas to various groups at local, state, national and international conferences. He has presented at Marriage and Family Therapy conferences in Virginia and Texas, and international conferences in Poland and Finland. He has presented at the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) national conferences in 1995, 1996 and 1998, and the Association for Play Therapy (APT) national conferences in 1992 and 1993.  He has been involved in clinical supervision, training and consultation for over 10 years. Wally has been an adjunct professor at Radford University since 1993 and teaches in the School of  Social Work, and the Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology departments.

Newsletter Co-Chairs:

Chris Sacco-Bene -Chris Sacco-Bene is currently a full-time third year doctoral student in the Counselor Education Ph.D. program at William & Mary. She holds an M.S.Ed. in Community Service Counseling from Old Dominion University. Since receiving her Master’s Degree, she has worked as an independent living counselor and a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Chris plans to continue working with people who experience disabilities, and wants to develop a family focus in her work and research with this population.  In addition to counseling families she is a Student Co-Director at the New Horizons Family Counseling Center at William & Mary. Chris is married and is the proud mother of a four year old daughter.
 

Denny Frank - Denny is currently a third year Counselor Education Ph.D. student. He completed his undergraduate studies in Psychology at Olivet College and received his Master's Degree in Community Counseling from Rollins College in May 2001. Denny's background includes providing counseling services to adolescents with behavioral problems and adults who have drug and alcohol addictions. Denny's current clinical focus and research interests are with Lesbigay couples and families.
 

Government Relations - Deborah Turner - Debbie has been employed with the Richmond Public Schools since 1978, formerly as special education teacher/educational diagnostician and now as a school counselor.  She obtained her Ph.D. from The College of William and Mary in Counselor Education with a concentration in family counseling.  Debbie is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor.  Her background includes both clinical and school-based experiences with families with special needs. Currently, Debbie works in an alternative urban secondary school setting with a special program for adolescent parents and their infant children. She holds a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University, Postgraduate Professional Endorsements in Special Education, Guidance and Counseling Pre-K through Grade 12, and an Educational Specialist Degree from the College of William and Mary.  She served for eight years on the faculty of the Children’s Hospital Education Program as an educational consultant with the pediatric clinic for children with traumatic brain injury, and other low-incidence disabling conditions. Originally from Roanoke, Virginia, she is the mother of two teenagers. Debbie has a strong interest in working with families with special needs children as well as in counselor development and education.
