Understanding Roman Culture

Given four English dates, students will convert three of four
into Roman form, and given four Roman dates, will convert three
of four into English form.

Students will be able to:
- Working in groups of 3, students will develop a study strategy
to help them memorize the Spanish vocabulary list or explain
an important grammatical concepts of the Unit.
- Working in groups of 3, students will use technology to creatively
develop and clearly communicate the strategy.
- Students will use the strategy to study the Unit's concepts
and examine the effectiveness of their own strategy and others'
strategies as indicated by a self-report.
Using Newsgroups in Spanish
Class

- Expand Spanish language skills and cultural knowledge through
the use of media, entertainment, and technology.
- Locate and use Spanish resources, such as individuals and
organizations accessible through the community or the Internet,
to broaden cultural understanding.
- Given access to a Spanish language newsgroup, students will
select and respond to a message, adhering to the criteria of
the rubric given to them by the teacher.
Virginia Spanish SOL:
- SIII.1 The student will engage in original and spontaneous
oral and written communications in Spanish.
- SIII.2 The students will demonstrate skills necessary to
initiate, sustain, and close oral and written exchanges in Spanish,
applying familiar vocabulary and structures to new situations.
- SIII.10 The students will improve Spanish language skills
and expand cultural understanding by accessing information beyond
the classroom setting for recreational, educational, and occupational
purposes.
Using the Web to Create
a Travel Brochure

- Students will utilize the web to research prospective destinations,
given a list of possible cities, in France. They will cite
the sources they used in their research.
- Students will plan a pretend weekend trip to France and create
a travel itinerary and brochure with at least four different
cities to visit and at least seven total activities to do. (i.e.
Paris-visit the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Champs Elysées;
Montpellier-go to the beach; Normandy-learn about D-Day; Grenoble-ski
the Alps)
- Students will present their brochures and itineraries to
the class, explaining what cities they have selected and what
activities they will be doing.
- Virginia French II SOL 9: Identify similarities and
differences of the geography of francophone countries and the
United States and their impact on aspects of culture, such as
clothing, foods, transportation, dwellings, recreation, and the
arts.
Designing A Scene
By: Mary Claypool, Kelly Hedrick, Laurie Harrell
- Students will design costumes using the Paint/Draw program
and create them using items from home and in the classroom.
- Students will memorize at least half of their character's
lines in a scene from the play L'Avare.
- Students will re-enact a scene from the play L'Avare for
the class.
- Students will demonstrate proper pronunciation and appropriate
speed, volume, and eye contact in their presentation.
- Students will use a word-processor to write, in French, how
they felt about the experience, including discussion of their
own performance, the performances of others, and their opinion
of the activity itself.
- Students will demonstrate, in the written response, proper
French grammar and vocabulary.
- Virginia French II SOL 6: The student will present
rehearsed material in French, including brief narratives, monologues,
dialogues, poetry, and/or songs.
