Lesson Description
1. Students will watch a video
of a student from last year's class with an exemplary presentation
of their historical figure given in the first person. This
will guide the students in their efforts to create and visualize
their presentation.
2. Students will chose from a
given list a historical figure on which to do research and give
a presentation.
- At this time, students will
also receive a copy of the rubric and checklist to guide their
research.
- Students are instructed to choose
based upon an interest they may have.
- The teacher will check to see
that there are no duplicated choices of figures.
3. Resources will be supplied
in class. Over a period of three days students will be given
forty-five minutes in class to research using the resources.
- Students will submit the attached
worksheet to ensure that they have used two resources.
4. After the three-day research
period, students will be given one hour to create a relevant symbol
relating to their figure.
- Students will use whatever media
are normally available in the classroom in addition to those
provided to create an object, item of clothing, or prop to aid
in the presentation.
5.
Students will be given forty-five minutes to construct the organization
of the presentation.
- Students will organize the material
they have found in research.
- Students will highlight key
information to place on power point slides.
- Students will prepare note cards
or a paper to aid in the oral presentation of their figure.
- Students will finish research
if needed.
- Students will compare their
outcomes to the product expected by the rubric.

previously created by the teacher. (Sample
template)
- Students will type the previously
highlighted information into the information slides.
- The teacher will demonstrate
the process of including sound and color in the presentation.

presentations.

all aspects of the presentation.
- The member of the pair who is
listening will have a copy of the rubric and checklist (below)
to ensure that all aspects of the requirements are met.
- The first student will offer
any advice or suggestions to the speaker.
- The duties of the pair will
switch and the process will repeat itself.
- The students will then be given
a short amount of time to revise of rewrite changes into the
presentation.
8. Students will be randomly assigned
five-minute blocks over the course of three days in which to present
the final product.
- After the students critique
each other, the teacher will announce the order of the presenters
to the students, beginning the next day.
9. Students will present to the
class as the teacher videotapes their performance.
10. Teacher will watch the videotape
with the student and explain the evaluation based on the rubric
