ALMA MATER: B.S., James Madison University; MAEd, William
and Mary
GRANT EXPECTATIONS: "Knowledge! This is an opportunity
of a life-time to have access to technology not readily available
in most schools, and have training and support to use it!"
FUNNIEST STUDENT STORY: "Last year, I held up
a picture of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and asked if anyone knew
who this famous man was. No hands. I gave the hint that he spent
his life helping people and trying to make sure all people were
treated fairly. A hand shot up immediately! I called on that
student who proudly shouted...'That's Judge Joe Brown!!' :-)
Welcome to the age of Court TV."

BETH JOHNSTON
Fifth Grade

GRANT EXPECTATIONS: "More knowledge of computers

flattened during the ride to school and was spread all over his
homework! The poor boy was afraid of getting in trouble, when
he actually made my day that morning!"

ALMA MATER: James Madison University
GRANT EXPECTATIONS: "A better understanding of
how to involve young children in technology."
FUNNIEST STUDENT STORY: "My second year of teaching
was not an easy one but one child always seemed to make me laugh.
He was extremely outgoing, loved to make others laugh, and had
a true passion for music. One day, he brought a surprise for
show-n-tell: his electric guitar. Full of gusto, he played an
original tune entitled 'Shark Attack!' I will never forget this
3-1/2 foot tall rock star playing his 'funky music' and I made
sure to get his picture and autograph! I won't be surprised if
he makes it big one day!"

FUNNIEST STUDENT STORY: "This year in math I have
been blessed to have two students that I also had their mothers
for my students when I
taught third grade at Matthew Whaley. I do remember their mothers
quite well. Their mothers were lovely little girls who now are
mothers! I can always tell my students, I remember when your
Mom...Or I can say, 'You know that I can always count on your
mom since I had her when she was in my class.' The girls I have
are lovely students and it has been so amazing that I have both
of them this year in my math class! They actually seem to thrive
on the challenge to meet the expectations that I have set since
I really do know their moms!"
