The clothing worn by women might have been pretty but it was very uncomfortable. The dresses were very long and underneath their dresses were layers of petticoats. They wore aprons to protect their clothing. Most women had only two sets of clothes-one set for weekdays and one for Sundays. Small waists were the fashion. So to make their waists small, women laced their corsets so tight that they could barely breathe!!
