Geography
Where was the Ancient Roman civilization located on a map? That's a hard question to answer because the amount of land covered by the Roman civilization grew along with it, as the Ancient Romans took over more and more land to make it part of their great Roman Empire.
Ancient Rome can be found in the area of Europe we now call Italy. Italy is a peninsula that sticks out into the Mediterranean Sea from the north. It looks just like a boot!
The city of Rome is near the center of the peninsula on the Tiber River. This is where the great Roman empire began.
Later, the Roman Empire would include all of the land around the Mediterranean Sea. The Romans conquered (that is took over by force) about half of Europe, the whole north coast of Africa and many of the lands in the Middle East. Look at this map that shows the most land that the Ancient Romans had taken over. Now you know why they said that the sun never set on the Roman Empire!
