ABOUT CUBAN CINEMA CLASSICS

Cuban Cinema Classics presents a showcase of Cuba's award winning revolutionary documentaries.

The initiative was established to address the difficulty of obtaining Cuban documentaries with English subtitles for educational and cultural purposes in the U.S. CCC distributes the documentaries to colleges and universities, media arts centers, museums, galleries, and other agencies. The organization of the series in thematic volumes and the subtitles in English enhance the possibilities for their use in educational and cultural programming. While educators and programmers benefit from the availability of subtitled Cuban documentaries on video and DVD, Cuban filmmakers and media organizations benefit from the increased audience for their production.

All of the documentaries included in the Cuban Cinema Classics collection have been screened and won awards at major film festivals around the world. The documentaries, made during the past 45 years by some of Cuba's most acclaimed filmmakers, represent a diversity of styles, subjects and perspectives.

With this ambitious project digitizing and subtitling Cuban documentaries, the material is being disseminated and preserved.
