New Cuban films The year 2005 starts with good news for Cuban Cinema because several fiction and animation films, with varying degrees of Cuban participation, have been completed or are underway at the moment. Among these projects is Bailando Cha Cha Cha ( Dancing Cha Cha Cha ) , directed by Manuel Herrera. The cast is headed by Eslinda Nu ñ ez, and with guest appearances by Cuban singer Omara Portuondo and Spanish actor Sancho Gracia. The musical, which takes place in the context of the birth of the Cha Cha Cha , describes the conflicts of a Cuban family and the different paths its members take in the early 50s. Revolving around Cuban music is also Benny Moré , directed by Jorge Luis Sánchez, which is currently being filmed. The film will tell the story of the Cuban idol, without trying to be a biography. However, it does hope to be a look deep into his its personality. This will be the first feature film for Sánchez, who is a relative of Benny. Another important director Humberto Sol á s is finishing his project Gente de pueblo ( Townspeople ), a film that offers a look at Havana through the conflicts of the characters played, among others, by Jorge Perugorría, Isabel Santos, Adela Legrá, Mario Limonta and Aurora Basnuevo. In 2005 the premiere of Gran Residencial Caribe ( Grand Caribe Court ) is scheduled, a co-production between Galician Television and ICAIC. An inheritance is the starting point for the action in this comedy that explores the links between Cuba and Spain . The cast includes Cuban actors Broselianda Hernández, Paula Alí, Roberto Perdomo and Patricio Wood, and Spanish actors Pepe Sancho and Jordi Vilches. From Spain also comes Mariano Barroso, director of Hormigas en la Boca ( Ants in the Mouth ) that tells us the story of a Spanish anti-Franco fighter who in the 50s travels to Havana . He has just been released from jail and is looking for his ex-girlfriend who has money he wants to recover. Ariadna Gil and Eduardo Fernández from Spain , and Jorge Perugorría and Isabel Santos from Cuba star in the leading roles of this thriller. In their inicial stage are Pages from Mauricio's Diary , directed by Manolo Pérez, a Cuba-Spain-Mexico co-production, and Manolo in the Peseta Age , directed by Pavel Giroud. Manolo in the Peseta Age tells the store of a kid who, in the 50s, walks into the adult world. Regarding animation, it has been announced that there should be a production of 300 minutes this year, including short and feature films. Among the latter are Meñique directed by Ernesto Padrón and a new film by Juan Padrón ( Elpidio Valdés, Vampires in Havana ).
