Mailing Lists or Listservs

  • RTeacher - devoted to discussions about literacy education as well as using the Internet, teachers nominate other teachers for the Miss Rumphius Award
  • Classroom Connect - connect with others about technology issues or other topics within education, find another teacher to connect with (over 100,000 teachers available)
  • KIDSPHERE - sign up and talk to other teachers about any topics within education, people share books, ask for suggestions or advice, discuss the pros and cons of many educational practices
  • WWWEDU - discussion of the use of the Internet in education
  • MIDDLE-L - discussion for those interested in middle school, sponsored by ERIC
  • SCHOOL-L - primary and secondary school discussion of many topics related to education including technology
  • EdWeb - this contains a list of many list servs that you can join
  • Education World- options of joining nine different mailing lists on various topics in education such as lesson planning, reviewing educational websites, dicussing early childhood education, etc.
  • K12OPPS- posts announcements of interest to educators such as free software, contests, conferences, training opportunities, educational Web sites, etc. K12opps is appropriate for teachers and parents of primary and secondary students (ages 6-18), as well as higher education teacher preparation programs
  • FirstYears- helps student and beginning teachers as they face new experiences in teaching. The mailing list serves as support and a sounding board for new teachers connect with other teachers
  • Teachers.net - includes over 50,000 teachers, this website allows teachers to join many different kinds of mailing lists by subject area, grade level, special interest, projects, technology, etc.

Collaborative Partnering or Projects

  • Global SchoolNet - internet projects registry where you can join an existing project or start one of your own
  • Teaching.com - connects teachers with other teachers from other countries/cultures to e-mail, start classroom penpals, collaborate on projects
  • eMail Classroom Exchange - teachers can talk with other teachers or find classrooms who are looking for partners to work collaboratively on a project
  • http://www.mathforum.org/~carol/web.html -includes several other sites for finding projects to join with your students
  • Education World - collaborative projects can be found on this website by searching by grade level or subject area. A collaborative project of the week is highlighted on the front page
  • Busy Teachers' Website K-12- click on "Interactive Web Projects" on the front page of this website to connect to many links to collaborative projects. There is even a link to NASA's Interactive Projects where students can interact with astronauts and engineers
  • CIESE- concentrates on learning and achievement of students in math and science (After clicking on "Classroom Projects", teachers can access information on collaborative projects, real time projects, partner projects, and projects using primary sources and archived collections.)
  • iEARN- a non profit global network that enhance learning and make a difference in the world (Classrooms have the opportunity of joining a learning circle, which are highly interactive project-based parnterships. All projects include a final product such as letter-writing, magazines, websites, reports, etc.)
  • Kidproject- specifically designed to match classrooms with classrooms in other countries (Teachers can look at ongoing, current, and past projects.)
  • Intercultural E-mail Classroom Connections - helps teachers link with partners from other countries and cultures (Over 82 countries have participated in IECC. Teachers can find partners for K-12, higher education, or intergenerational exchanges.)

Keypals

  • e-PALS Classroom Exchange - Over 4.5 million teachers and students in 191 countries are involved with e-PALS making this website the world's largest classroom community. Nearly ninety thousand classroom profiles exist on e-PALs for teachers to search through to find keypal partner classrooms.
  • Teaching.com (Keypals Club) - This website offers a free educational service to quickly locate and contact a student or class from around the world. Only your e-mail address is necessary to register.
  • Education World's World School Directory - A huge world school directory is provided by and listed by region of the world. Teachers can click on a region and find K-12 schools, universities, and educational resources from around the world.
  • More Than Just Pen Pals - This website offers links to other websites that provide tips on finding keypals, safety issues teachers need to discuss with their students when using the Internet, and activity ideas you can do with your partner class.
  • Rigby Heinemann Global Keypals - This keypal site offers connections with classrooms and individuals from around the world. Students can click on their age to be connected with other students of the same age. Teachers can click on the grade of their students and find hundreds of other classrooms looking for keypal partners.
  • The KidsZone - This website is specifically designed with kids in mind. There are tons of links to different keypal opportunities such as looking for partners in other states or countries. There are even e-mailing mentor programs listed where professionals can help students with their homework.
  • Kidworld Keypals - The keypals on this website are divided into four sections by age. Once viewers click on the age range containing their age, they can view several different individuals looking for a keypal and choose one to write to. There are also games and stories written by kids avialable to view.
  • Internet Keypals by Alicia M. Bartol - This article highlights the experiences of eight girls as they use national and international keypals to learn about geography, earth science, history, and culture. These girls give advice of what others should keep in mind as they are using keypals.
  • Getting Started on The Internet: The Key to Keypal Success - A great article for beginning users of keypals. The article gives helpful tips for e-mail first timers, an example of a successful keypal program, and Internet websites and resources for keypals.
