Chanco on the James Camp and Conference Center is nestled on the James River in Surry County, located on more than 125 wooded acres overlooking a pristine beach front and the beautiful James River. Chanco is conveniently located near Surry attractions such as Smith's Fort, Chippokes Plantation, and Bacon's Castle, while Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg can be reached via a pleasant, scenic ferry ride across the river. Chanco is a marvelous home base from which to explore this historic area of Virginia.

Chanco on the James will be your home away from home while you are Elderhosteling with us. You will be housed in a very nice motel-style double occupancy room with a private bathroom (shower only.) Conference areas for classroom instruction are adjacent to the room accommodations. Meals are served buffet style in an adjacent dining hall.

Elderhostel Registration at Chanco on the James

Register for your room at the conference center front desk. The Elderhostel registration desk opens at 3:30 pm. Light refreshments will be available and you will receive your packet of program materials.

Arriving Early? Staying Late? Unfortunately, Chanco on the James cannot accommodate early arrivals or those who wish to stay after the Elderhostel program ends. However, accommodations are readily available in the Williamsburg area. Call us at (757) 221-3649 and we will be happy to assist you.
