Dear Professor,

We are writing to ask if you would assist us by taking a few minutes to complete the 2006 Teaching, Research, and International Politics online survey. You may have completed the 2004 TRIP survey and/ or have seen the results, which were published in Foreign Policy magazine in 2005.

The purpose of the survey is to investigate the nature of the relationship between research, teaching, and policymaking in the field of international relations (IR). Unlike a national poll of likely voters, this survey seeks the opinions of IR scholars at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Among other things this survey examines which theories, methods, and pedagogical techniques are most prevalent in the field of IR. It also explores the views of IR scholars on a variety of contemporary and historical foreign policy issues.

The survey has four parts. Part I asks about teaching practices and curricula. Part II asks about the state of the IR discipline. Part III asks about your research, including theories and methods used and issues studied. Part IV asks about current foreign policy issues.

In pre-tests, the survey took between 24 and 32 minutes to complete. Your responses will be confidential: at no time will your name be associated with any results of this study. To further ensure the confidentiality of your responses, we will only release aggregate data.

To complete the online survey, please click on the link below. By doing so, you are signifying your voluntary participation in this project. You may exit the survey at any time by closing your browser, although your answers will not be saved. If you wish to save your answers and complete the survey at a later time, press the "save" button located at the bottom of each section and follow the instructions that will appear.
