Curriculum

LAW 709-01 Constitutional Literacy 2 credits
In this course students will teach local high-school students about the Bill of Rights, citizenship, and voting rights and responsibilities based on the case-law method and the lessons in We the Students, by Jamin Raskin, CQ Press, (2008). Students first will be taught the curriculum and the issues specifically relating to the teaching high-school students. This instruction would include methods for making complicated legal concepts accessible to non-legally trained students. The law students would then go into local high schools to teach the assigned constitutional law subjects as part of the social studies curriculum. There will be weekly sessions led by the course instructor to discuss classroom and curricular experiences following the high school teaching sessions. Grading for this course will be on a pass-fail basis. Enrollment is open to 2L and 3L students and the enrollment is limited to 12.
