The latest U.S. News & World Report rankings appeared this week. For the second year in a row, the Law School was ranked 27th. We are tied with Boston College, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Washington. This ranking, 27th, remains the best Marshall-Wythe has yet to do in the U.S. News sweepstakes. There are 193 accredited law schools in the United States, with more coming every year. The Black Law Students Association recently hosted an event to celebrate the life and work of Coretta Scott King. Click here to read more. BLSA will host its annual Oliver Hill banquet on April 2 with Mr. Hill as the honored guest. John Charles Thomas, a former justice of the Virginia Supreme Court, will speak. He remains the youngest person ever appointed to Virginia's highest court and its first African-American member.
Cutler Professor of Law Jayne W. Barnard has been appointed to the National Association of Securities Dealers National Adjudication Council. The 14-member Council, which serves as the “court of appeals” in the brokerage industry’s private regulatory system, meets five times per year to review cases involving discipline and reinstatement of financial professionals. Walter S. Felton, Jr., has been appointed chief judge of the Virginia Court of Appeals. Judge Felton joined the Law School faculty in 1982 and directed our Trial Advocacy Program for many years. While on leave from the Law School, he also served as Governor Gilmore's counselor and director of policy. Click here for the story.
1st Lt. Laura L. Richmond ’08, who is attending law school under the Air Force Funded Legal Education Program, recently received the Meritorious Service Medal for her exemplary performance as tour director of the Air Force’s Tops In Blue entertainment unit. Click here to read more.
The 35th running of the William B. Spong, Jr., Invitational Moot Court Tournament was held on February 17-18, 2006. Twenty-eight teams from 20 schools competed, with winner’s laurels going to a team from South Texas and runner-up honors to a team from Temple. Click here to read more.
Anonymous Donor Offers to Match Select Gifts Made by Law Alumni. For any graduate who has not previously given to the Law School, an anonymous donor will match the first $25 of any gift of at least that amount to the Annual Fund. For past donors who increase their largest gift to the Annual Fund by at least $25, the donor will add $25. Click here to make your gift on-line.

There's still time to register for the weekend's festivities which include reunion celebrations for the Classes of '76, '81, '86, '91, '96 and '01, as well as a special, combined celebration for the Classes of '70, '71, and '72. Registrations are needed by April 3.
