New Faculty

Nancy Combs

Nancy Combs joined the faculty as Assistant Professor in 2004 but was overseas until recently where she served as the legal advisor to a judge on the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal in The Hague. She earned her B.A. at the University of Portland and her J.D. from Berkeley where she served as Articles Editor of the California Law Review and received the Thelen Marrin Prize for graduating first in her class. She will be awarded her Ph.D. from Leiden University later this year. Professor Combs clerked for Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the Supreme Court.

Michael Steven Green

Michael Steven Green has been appointed Professor and will join us in January. He earned his B.A. at Berkeley and his Ph.D. and J.D. at Yale. He is currently teaching at George Mason University Law School and taught previously in the Department of Philosophy at Tufts University. He clerked for Judge Richard A. Posner of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, and practiced law with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York City. Professor Green was a visiting research fellow in 2001-02 at the University of London’s King’s College School of Law.

Laura Heymann

Laura A. Heymann joins us as Assistant Professor. She earned her B.A. at Yale and her J.D. at Berkeley. She taught previously at George Washington University Law School where she was a Visiting Associate Professor and an Administrative Fellow in the Intellectual Property Law Program. Professor Heymann clerked for Judge Patricia M. Wald, U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, served as Assistant General Counsel for America Online, Inc., and practiced law with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, DC.

 

Visiting Faculty

William Bradford

William C. Bradford is a Visiting Professor of Law from Indiana University Law School. He holds a B.A., M.A. and J.D. from the University of Miami, an LL.M. from Harvard, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern. Professor Bradford serves as Ambassador to the U.N., Miami Tribe of Indians of Indiana; as Associate Judge Pro Tempore, Court of Appeals, Fort Sill Apache Nation; and as Special Advisor, Laws of Armed Conflict, to the Staff Judge Advocate, 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault, U.S. Army.

David Frisch

David M. Frisch is a returning Visiting Professor from the University of Richmond. He holds a B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. from the University of Miami and an LL.M. from Yale. He has taught at Widener University Law School and has been a visiting professor at the University of Illinois and at Temple. He practiced law at Britton, Cohen, Kaufman & Schantz in Miami and at Zietz, Mittleman & Webster in Providence.

Michele Gilman

Michele Estrin Gilman is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law from the University of Baltimore. She holds a B.A. from Duke and a J.D. from Michigan. Professor Gilman clerked for Judge Frank A. Kaufman, Senior U.S. District Judge, District of Maryland. She is a former trial attorney for the Department of Justice in the Civil Rights Division’s Voting Section and also practiced law at Arnold & Porter in Washington, DC.  She is Director of the University of Baltimore Civil Advocacy Clinic, supervising students who represent low-income clients in diverse areas of litigation and policy reform.

Marci Kelley

Marci Kelly is a Visiting Professor of Law from Golden Gate University. She earned her B.A. at Vassar, her J.D. at UVA and her LL.M. at New York University. Professor Kelly served as Attorney-Advisor to Judge Lapsley Hamblen, U.S. Tax Court, Washington, DC.  She is former Associate Dean and Director of the LL.M. (Tax) Program at Golden Gate and also was on the faculty at Puget Sound (now Seattle University). She has been a visiting professor at the universities of Richmond, William Mitchell, San Francisco, and Notre Dame; and has been an adjunct professor at the universities of Washington, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Diego and Paris X.

Teressa Ravenell

Teressa E. Ravenell is a returning Visiting Assistant Professor of Law. Professor Ravenell earned her B.A. at UVA and her J.D. at Columbia. At Columbia, she served as Executive Editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems.  She has clerked for Judge Raymond A. Jackson, U.S. District Judge, Norfolk, and has practiced law with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, DC.

Toni Robinson

Toni Robinson is a Visiting Professor of Law from Quinnipiac University Law School where she is also a co-director of the Tax Clinic. She holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, a J.D. from Columbia, and an LL.M. from New York University. She practiced law at Battle, Fowler, Jaffin & Kheel, and Roberts & Holland in New York City. Her pro bono work includes service on the Domestic Relations Committee and the Low Income Taxpayers’ Committee of the ABA Tax Section, and on the Executive Committee for the Section on Women in Legal Education for the American Association of Law Schools.

Ronald Turner

Ronald Turner is a Visiting Professor of Law from the University of Houston Law Center. He earned his B.A. at Wilberforce University and his J.D. at the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Turner has taught at the University of Alabama Law School and practiced law with Schiff, Hardin & Waite; Seyfarth, Shaw, Fairweather & Geraldson; and Murphy, Smith & Polk, in Chicago. He is a member of the Industrial Relations Research Association and is a contributing editor of the AIDS & Public Policy Journal.
