Judge Smith Urges Graduates to See Role as Lawyer as an Opportunity to Teach

Awards Ceremony Celebrates Achievements, Contributions of Class of 2007
At the Awards Ceremony on May 19, held at Colonial Williamsburg’s Kimball Theatre, the Dean and others presented awards and special recognitions to members of the graduating class, beginning with initiation of new members of the Order of the Coif. Christopher J. Honenberger B.B.A. ’74, J.D. ’77, received the Citizen Lawyer Award during commencement. The honor is awarded annually to a graduate or friend of the Law School who stands squarely in the Jeffersonian tradition of outstanding citizenship and leadership. Click here to read more.

Former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and the Rt. Hon. Chief Justice of Canada Beveley McLachlin were among the delegation who visited the Law School on April 19 as part of the American College of Trial Lawyers' Canada-U.S. Legal Exchange to hold a working session, visit the McGlothlin Courtroom, and answer students' questions as a panel. The delegation's visit was prefaced by a dinner at the historic Wren Building. In addition to O'Connor and McLachlin, panel members included Justices Marie Deschamps and Marshall E. Rothstein of the Canadian Supreme Court, Judge Robert H. Henry of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Judge Charles R. Breyer, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Chancellor Professor of Law Emeritus John Levy and Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott, co-founder and founding president, respectively, of the Peninsula Legal Aid Center, will be honored for their lifetime contributions to Legal Aid at a June 1 benefit reception at the Law School, hosted by the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia. PSF Fellowships -- 87 Students, 84 Organizations, 8 Nations: The Law School has awarded $267,548 in Public Service Fellowships to 87 students, who will work for 84 organizations across the U.S., and in Australia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Cambodia, Ghana, Pakistan, and Swaziland.
