James E. Moliterno, the Law School’s Tazewell Taylor Professor of Law, gave the 2005-06 St. George Tucker Lecture on February 1 titled “Politically Motivated Bar Discipline.”

Professor Moliterno, who is also director of the Legal Skills Program and Clinical Programs, is the author of numerous books and articles on legal ethics, legal education, and the legal profession. He helped design the Legal Skills curriculum which was awarded the American Bar Association’s first E. Smythe Gambrell Professionalism Award in 1991 and also has served as course director for two national conferences supported by the W.M. Keck Foundation on innovation in the teaching of professional responsibility. Professor Moliterno currently is working with law schools in Serbia to design legal research, writing and ethics courses as part of his work as a consultant to the National Center for State Court’s Serbian Rule of Law Project. He is a frequent speaker on ethics issues at academic, judicial and bar functions and also has served as an expert witness on a pro bono basis in death penalty cases that involve instances of lawyer misconduct.

The St. George Tucker Lecture Series was established in 1996 to recognize the scholarly achievements of senior members of the William & Mary Law School faculty and is named after St. George Tucker, the second professor of law at William & Mary and a pioneer in legal education.
