The Assistant Dean reports to the Associate Dean for Career Services and Public Service Initiatives and Director of Externships and works with a team consisting of the associate dean, two other assistant deans, an assistant director, a career services coordinator, and student assistants.
The Assistant Dean counsels students and graduates about career planning, professional development, employment options, job search strategies, resume and cover letter preparation, and interview skills; conducts skills workshops; plans programs and panels; engages in employer outreach and development; assists with on-campus, nonvisiting employer, job fair, and video recruitment activities; develops and implements policies and procedures; develops Web and print resources and publications; and reviews and analyzes data and prepare reports.
Consistent with the Law School’s needs and the individual’s background and interests, the Assistant Dean may have the opportunity to teach in the Law School’s Legal Skills curriculum.
A law degree or a graduate degree in counseling, student services, or a related field is required. Experience in legal career services, law school administration, or legal recruiting / professional development is strongly preferred. The Assistant Dean will be proficient in creative uses of technology in delivering services, possess strong administrative skills, be knowledgeable about the legal profession, and have excellent writing and public speaking abilities.
