PROGRAMS & SERIES

The Museum offers many programs, workshops, lecture series and programs throughout the year. These are in conjunction with current exhibitions and the Museum collection.

LECTURES & GALLERY TALKS

The Museum is pleased to offer, in conjunction with our collections and temporary exhibitions, an ongoing series of lectures by national and internationally recognized experts.  The lectures are on selected Thursdays at 5 pm (unless otherwise noted). Lectures are free with Museum admission.

Join us for lively, informative Gallery Talks in based on our collections and temporary exhibitions.  Gallery Talks provide visitors a chance to receive an “insider tour” by a local expert, faculty member, student curator, or museum staff.  Gallery Talks take place select Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m.  They are free with museum admission and open to the public.

DOCENT LED-TOURS are available every Saturday & Sunday at 1 PM

Tactile Tour Program

The Muscarelle Museum of Art is proud to announce an enhanced exhibition tour now available using the sense of touch to explore paintings. The use of art is a powerful tool for developing the brain, for healing, for communication, and for making richer experiences in life, but much of art is a visual experience. The Tactile Tour Program is designed to provide art experiences to a very special audience, for people who are blind and persons with low vision.

In recognition of Disability Awareness Month, the Museum will be kicking off this tactile program with a series of Saturday tours in October. Beginning October 3rd, and running throughout the month of October the Muscarelle Museum of Art will be giving tactile tours every Saturday, from 12 – 4. After October, tours can be made by appointment by calling 757.221.2703 or emailing museum@wm.edu.

SPRING FILM SERIES

The Museum is proud to partner with W & M Film Studies, Swem Media Center, and The Christopher Wren Association, to present a Spring Film series of first-run and independent films. Highlighting films from around the world, this film series provides an opportunity to experience films that would not normally come to this area. Films are shown, most Tuesday evenings throughout the spring. Each film is presented with an introduction by a select faculty member, a viewing of the film and a special bonus short film.
