"Nearly each time I have been to sea, we have seen or discovered something new - an amazing new animal, behavior, or place. The wonder of what is still left to discover is what keeps me captivated and excitedly thinking about that next trip."
Karen Jacobsen Expeditionary Illustrator
This exhibition presents a comprehensive insight of a fifteen year joint effort between two women renowned in their fields, Dr. Cindy Lee Van Dover and Karen Jacobson. It strives to advance the exploration and documentation of the ocean floor, an under-explored area closer than any planet and still vastly uncharted by any who live here. Providing a unique and innovative way to bring audiences of the arts and sciences together, Beyond the Edge of the Sea opens up the world of underwater exploration and expresses a need for conservation. With this exhibition the two women have brought their unique talents together to educate others about the existence of extreme deep-ocean environments.
Over fifty excerpts from Jacobsen's sketchbooks, and five specially commissioned pieces, make up the core of the exhibition. Coupled with personal narratives and a natural history guide, this exhibition explores the deep sea like no other. The exhibition is available for select venues for showing, exhibition specifications are available from the download below.
