The William and Mary Alumni Association presented Susan Evans and Gerald Bullock M.Ed. ’97 with Staff Service Awards at the annual Fall Awards Banquet held on Sept. 29.

As director of Web and learning services, Susan Evans was instrumental in the Alumni Association’s increased Internet presence over the last year, resulting in the inclusion of new alumni in the College’s myWM portal. Her efforts in data collection and organization made a tremendous difference in the search for a new Executive Vice President for the Alumni Association in 2005.

Her nomination form reads, “In all endeavors, Susan has been considerate of our needs and has always sought solutions to issues brought to her.” Her supervisor, associate provost and chief information officer Courtney Carpenter, says that “Susan Evans is a true asset to the College in leading IT’s Web and Communications team.”

Susan Evans’ ability to bring the College’s information technology services together with Alumni Association initiatives has proven to be an important asset in a technological age.

Gerald Bullock M.Ed. ’97 serves as the Department of University Development’s regional director of major gifts. Bullock has been invaluable as a friend to the Alumni Association, providing help when needed for alumni events and feedback for alumni publications.

His nomination form said, “Gerald has always fostered a spirit of collaboration and cooperation … When Gerald attends one of our events, he does not just show up, he always asks what he can do and is a wonderful ambassador for the association.” Vice president for development Sean Pieri says, “Gerald looks for ways to forge bonds with our broader community; He seeks to connect, discover, and respond to their needs.”

The Faculty and Staff Service Award was established in 1995 to recognize sustained involvement by members of the College faculty and staff on behalf of the Alumni Association and alumni programs. A $1,000 honorarium is presented to each recipient of the award. In addition to the Staff Service Awards, five W&M professors received Alumni Fellowship Awards and one coach received the Coach of the Year Award.

Founded in 1842, the William and Mary Alumni Association is a separately incorporated nonprofit organization that encourages alumni of the College of William and Mary to remain active partners in the life of the university. The Alumni Association’s programs nurture friendships, inspire pride and build an appreciation among alumni for William and Mary’s long tradition of achievement.
