Other Opportunities
Maybe you still haven’t found what you’re looking for. If William & Mary doesn’t offer the program that best suits your academic and personal goals, someone else probably does. Many students go abroad on programs sponsored by other U.S. or foreign universities or on independently run programs. The GEO library, on the second floor of the Reves Center, is a great resource for investigating all those possibilities. Here are some excellent programs that have been popular with our students over the years (*indicates that a program is a William & Mary affiliate. These are programs with which we have an established agreement and whose services we particularly trust):
- Advanced Studies in England (ASE)*: offers semester, year-long, and summer programs in Arts and Humanities subjects and is affiliated with Oxford University.
- American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)*: offers semester, year-long, and summer programs around the world for students with or without foreign language skills.

Direct Enrollment
You may apply to enroll directly in any foreign university which accepts visiting international students. As a direct enroll student, you must meet all of the host institution’s normal admissions requirements, including language proficiency; you are responsible for all aspects of your academic and residential life, just as you are here on the home campus; and you pay tuition and all fees to the host university. Particular care must be taken to ensure that credits will transfer properly, so you are encouraged to work closely with your academic advisor and the GEO staff during the application and course selection process.
