APO Service Lookbook 2009

Overview

The three cardinal principles of Alpha Phi Omega are leadership, friendship, and service. Though it comes last in our motto, service is first in our hearts. It is the reason we as an organization exist.
Our chapter's service program provides many opportunities for the enrichment of our community and of ourselves. We have over 20 service projects - and counting! Any Brother can start a new service project by following the following 5 easy steps.

Types of Service Projects
  • Nation: Blood Drive
  • Community: Matthew Whaley
  • Campus: Escort
  • Brotherhood: Brotherhood tutoring
Starting a new Service Project
  1. Begin with an idea. APO sponsors service to the Brotherhood, to the Campus, to the Community, and to the Nation. In other words, there's a world of service projects just waiting for some clever someone to head them up. It could be you!
  2. Talk to the Service VP about the project. Attend a Service Committee meeting and discuss the idea with the Brothers on the committee; they will be able to help decide whether the project is worth pursuing.
  3. Find out as much as you can about the project. Know the logistics - what will the Brotherhood need to put into the project? How many people and how much of a commitment from each participant will it need? Will transportation be necessary? What special training is required? How often will the project go out?
  4. Finally, bring the information before the Brotherhood to determine how much interest the project generates. We'll put your project to a vote. Don't fret, if you've done your homework your project will get the wholehearted support of all of your Brothers.
  5. Once the Brotherhood approves your idea, get started quickly. Attend Service Committee meetings regularly. Make announcements at Brothers' meetings. Set a schedule and advertise it. One more thing... HAVE FUN!
