Family Groups Fall 2011

Family Groups are our way of developing Christian community at W&M. They are the soul of BCM. We gather weekly in smaller groups to inspire deeper devotion to Christ's teachings, prayer, and fun... basically sharing life together. Contact us for more information.

Currently, we have 6 family groups gathering each week. If you would like to join one of the groups, you can contact us, or better yet, simply contact one of the group leaders below.

Men's Group

Led by: Kirkland and AJ

Mondays, 6:30pm, Marketplace

Men's Group is a place of discipleship and fellowship amongst guys. Our mission is to study the written Word, in order to become more like the Living Word in our everyday lives. We will study both the Old and New Testament and cover topics ranging from apologetics, relationships, spiritual growth, and much more. We will emphasize how to identify and apply the qualities of an upright Christian man in the modern world. We strive to look inside at ourselves, outside to others, and ultimately upward to the LORD.

Women's Group

Degrees of Glory

Led by: Shawn and Katherine

Tuesdays, 5:30pm, Marketplace couches

This group is a great place for women to connect while having a safe place to learn and grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. First semester we will be focusing on faith. We want to come to know more about the God we serve, learn what faith looks like from examples in the Bible and most importantly we want to be daily transformed to be more like our Savior.

The Inklings

Led by: Andrew and Caroline

Tuesdays, 6:30pm, at the BCM House

This is the Inklings third year at the BCM at William and Mary. The group takes its name from the group of writers that met at the Eagle and Child pub in Oxford, England in the 1930s and 40s. The group included writers like C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien. As these writers sharpened their craft in community, so the Inklings Bible Study hopes to foster a similar atmosphere. This year the Inklings will begin a study looking at passages appearing in the Old Testament that are further quoted in the New Testament. As the year progresses the Inklings will take cues from members in regards to where our future discussions and studies will lead.

Prodigal God

Led by: Christiane, Graham, and Laura

Wednesdays, 6:00pm, meet at the Marketplace

This family group will be based on concepts discussed in Timothy Keller's The Prodigal God, using the book as a jumping-off point for discussion, prayer, and gaining a deeper understanding of our hope and salvation in Jesus Christ. We'll begin with a group study using the book, but you certainly don't have to purchase the book in order to attend. Through our study, we hope to foster a close-knit community of faith, support, and mutual accountability. We'll meet Wednesdays at 6:00 at the Marketplace for dinner and fellowship, followed by our study. We hope to see you there!

The Graduates

Led by: Annie and Shylan

Wednesdays, 6:30pm, at the BCM House

We are a group of students from all disciplines that gathers weekly to encourage and support each other in the journey of our graduate studies and our walks with Christ. We want to serve as a group for spiritual accountability and fellowship. This year we hope to study spiritual disciplines, beginning with a look at prayer and the Psalms, and the way that personal discipline intersects with the responsibilities we have towards each other in the body of Christ. We frequently end our evenings by going out for a meal together. We would love to have you join us and become part of our family!

Believin' Heathens

The fallibility of man. The infallibility of God.

Led by: Alex and Courtney

Thursdays, 7:00pm, at the Daily Grind

Believin' Heathens is about keeping in mind that we are human and considering how we handle our faith in the modern world. To put it simply, God is perfect...we aren't. How do the writings from the Bible apply to our present life? How do contemporary literature, music, social issues, academics, etc., fit with what God teaches us? If you are interested in exploring such questions, this is the group for you. We will encourage in-depth discussions and group suggestions, so we can learn from each other and grow together in our faith. This group will be open minded and affirming.
