Why he loves the choir:

In her own words: I had such a good time as a fundraising chair for

talk a bit, and they give me money! Sometimes without even buying anything!
Why she loves the choir:
Oh, where to begin. Let's see...I can't even imagine what my life would be like at W&M had I not
joined the choir. Not only do I have amazing memories from traveling around the east coast and
Eastern Europe and get to attend some very interesting events on campus, (*cough* three feet away
from Sandra Day O'Connar *cough*) I have also met many of my very best friends in this group, as

Historian
Michael Blaakman, '09
mablaa@wm.edu
Hometown: Fairport, NY
Voice Part: Bass 1
Year: Sophomore
Major: History and Religion
In his own words:
Larisa and I get to take photographs of all of our friends at their most embarrassing moments, and then
proceed to distribute, circulate, publish, or advertise them as we see fit.
Why he loves the choir:
Choir is, quite possibly the coolest group of people on the planet. . . .Okay, so maybe that's false.
Some of us are pretty darn uncool. But the cool part about all that is that we rejoice in our individual
uncoolness which, in turn, makes us collectively cool. Right? Right. Seriously--Choir was the first group
to welcome me to campus and has been my family ever since. It is absolutely saturated with the most loving,
interesting, and accepting people around. Plus, the music's good, too. It is the perfect group to join and
devote one's self to, and has been best part of my time at William and Mary so far.
Other Campus Activities:
Spotswood Society, intern in Colonial Williamsburg Department of Architectural Research, student assistant
to David L. Holmes, Hickory Neck Choral Scholars, and theater here and there. |

Year: Sophomore
Major: Music and Women's Studies
Why she loves the choir:
I'm in it for more reasons that I can possibly list, but here's a start: the eclectic mix of people,
the choir family, the comaraderie, the traditions (especially choir dinner!) but most of all, Kwah
Love.

Botetourt Chamber Singers, Doubletake, Delta Omicron, Sinfonicron

Voice Part: Soprano II
Year: Freshman
Major: Undecided (Psychology and IR?)
Why she loves the choir: Choirs everywhere are groups of unique people who work hard to create
beautiful music and who also have an insatiable sense of fun. In my experience, choirs are always tight
communities who are held together by both friendship and a common love of the music. I look forward to an
incredible experience with the W&M Choir!
Other Campus Activities: N/A

I also get a Queen. What's not to love?

mystic energy force that surrounds and connects all choir things. I also really dig
finally being able to sing the harmony parts of the Alma Mater.

Hometown: Charleston, Me
Voice Part: Bass II
Year: Junior
Major: History/Math
In their own words: ...
Why they love the choir: I've enjoyed it almost since the moment I joined. I know a
lot of people say this, but it really is like a huge family. The times spent with these people, in and
outside of choir, have been amazing. The friendships and great memories I've had will be sure to last a
lifetime... and I still have more than two years of new friendships and great experiences to go. I can't
imagine what life at this college would have been like without choir. Oh, and going to Europe with the
choir was pretty amazing too.
Other Campus Activities: Choir's pretty much it for the moment.

keep you all updated as to the happenings of the William and Mary Choir this year.
Why I love the choir: Choir is my family on campus. Such a strong connection between
people is nothing to be taken lightly, and the Choir doesn't take our connection lightly at all.
