The Mu Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Chapter History

On a beautiful Saturday morning, February 7th, 1976 to be exact, the Mu Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the campus of William and Mary. Both past and current members of Mu Upsilon extend our humble gratitude for the hard work of ten pioneering women. These women are:

  • Darlene Malinda Ford
  • Christie Elizabeth Harris
  • Peggy Lee Jones
  • Gloria Diane Keys
  • Debbie Elaine Locke
  • Deborah Lynn Parker
  • Bonita Valerie Saunders
  • Renee Beth Thurston
  • Marilyn Betty Vaughn
  • Michelle Yvonne Whitehurst

**Michelle Whitehurst, though not a charter member, was instrumental in bringing about the chartering of the chapter.

From the beginning our charter members set out to represent the ideals of our sorority including a commitment to service, high scholastic achievement, and quality membership. These ideals have remained a top priority for all past and present Mu Upsilon members. Mu Upsilon stands as a leading force on the William and Mary campus and in the Williamsburg communities. Mu Upsilon continues to embrace Delta Sigma Theta’s Five Point Thrust program through several innovative programs including participation in Freshmen Move-In Day,  health  initiatives, Delta GEMS,  22 Days of Service, Adopt-A-Grandparent,  Pre-Kwanzaa Celebrations, Voter Registration Drives and much  more more.
