AFRICAN DRUM AND DANCE WORKSHOPS PRESENTED BY THE AFROMOTIVE
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their drum(s) and/or dancing shoes!

Part 1-
* Introduction to djembe technique- tone, slap, bass
* Basic accompaniment rhythms
* Dancers learn basic steps

Part 2-
* Djembe accompaniments combined with other drum parts, (i.e. sangbang, kinkine, doun doun, bells, etc.)
* Maintaining accompaniment patterns with djembe soloist.
* Dancers put series of steps together to match the instruments

Part 3-
* "THE CALL"- soloist calls the break
* "THE BREAK"- rhythmic variation played in unison with all or most of the drums.

Part 4-
* putting it all together- call, break, accompaniments, and dancers

Part 5- (depending on the turnout.  Maybe we'll do this first, we'll see how the crowd is)
* Short history of the djembe and African dance, including social significance, folklore, and present day usage.
