Monday, April 7
"Israel-Palestine: What the Media Leave Out"
Alison Weir, If Americans Knew

Alison Weir is the founder of If Americans Knew, a non-profit organization dedicated to disseminating information about the Israel-Palestine conflict to an often misinformed or uninformed American public. She will be speaking on the systemic issues which cause biased or incomplete reporting on Palestine.


Tuesday, April 8
Teach-in: "Promoting Palestine Awareness on Campus"
Suha Dabbouseh, US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation
Crim Dell Meadow, 3pm

As a former field organizer and regional director for Amnesty International, Suha Dabbouseh possesses invaluable knowledge about running a social justice campaign. Additionally, she founded the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. At this informal teach-in, Suha will speak to the general public on how we can further the Palestinian cause in peaceful and effective ways.

Wednesday, April 9
"Black America, Palestinians, and Islam: The Struggle for Justice"
Imam Talib, Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood

Imam Talib is the head of the mosque in Harlem, New York and a leading Muslim figure in the national interfaith movement. He is renowned for his participation in international conferences on interfaith cooperation, HIV/AIDS, and the advancement of peace and justice. More info: www.mcnny.org.

 

Thursday, April 10
"Voices of Palestine"
Andrews 101, 7pm
This evening will seek to put a face to the Palestinian culture so often left out of the media's coverage of the conflict. We will welcome the poet Remi Kanazi (www.poeticinjustice.net) and the WM Middle Eastern Music Ensemble. Middle Eastern desserts and tea provided during reception.

 Film: "Rana's Wedding"
Andrews 101, 9pm
Stick around after the reception for "Rana's Wedding"! This film by the renowned director Hany Abu-Assad ("Paradise Now") presents the story of Rana, a Palestinian girl who seeks to marry the man of her choice. Rana's journey to find her boyfriend takes her through Jerusalem and across checkpoints, and provides a uniquely female point of view to the backdrop of the Israel-Palestine issue.
