On-Campus Resources

Student Health Center
-         focuses on early stages of pregnancy
-         offers GYN exams/ PAP smears
-         offers contraception, emergency contraception
-         pregnancy test - $10
o       negative result: counseling on contraception
o       positive result: packet of info about:
§         Raising child
§         Adoption
§         Abortion
o       other brochures offered as well
-         No prenatal care
o       Provide contact info, directions, help with making appointment at a local prenatal care location
o       Williamsburg OBGYNs, Womancare of Williamsburg
-         offers further counseling
-         encourages both partners to attend counseling sessions
-         Student Health Insurance
o       most likely will not have to pay copays with this plan
o       Business Manager at SHC can aid with getting Medicaid
o       can add spouse, dependents to insurance plan
 
 
-         if child is due beginning to mid-semester:
o       student may have to leave for the remainder of the semester
o       fill out 1-page form to do so
o       can still register in their normal registration window for next semester
-         if child is due late in the semester:
o       work with professors to decrease workload, arrange for incompletes, reschedule final exams
§         possibly do exams through email, send them in or finish over the summer
o       parking permits given if there are medical complications (resulting from stress, etc.)
-         temporary parking permits available when back on campus to make getting to class easier, decrease course load again, work again to reschedule exams
-         refers students to Child & Family Connection to facilitate child care
 
-         focuses on ensuring that student makes conscious decision, does not rush
-         counseling available for any decision student makes
 
      -         family housing at 502 Ludwell with 2 year waiting list
-         student petitions Contract Release Committee to leave campus housing
 
 
 
Off-Campus Resources
 
 
 
Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia
-         runs pregnancy care center located behind Colony Square shopping center
-         open 10am - 4pm daily, staffed by community volunteers
-         open Monday and Tuesday nights, staffed by W&M volunteers
-         free pregnancy tests, free counseling for any family members
-         makes layettes, given to mothers shortly before term
-         offers post-abortion counseling
 
Care Net
-         located off Jamestown Road, 2 miles from Confusion Corner, across from Colony Square shopping center
-         open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
-         free pregnancy testing
-         focuses on developing relationships with the women they help—45 minute-1 hour question session
-         offers information on all 3 options
-         Baby Boutique – attend parenting skills sessions to get credits towards items in the boutique
-         offers post-abortion counseling
-         love and truth are focuses
-         developing programs for men as well
 
Williamsburg Department of Human Services
-         Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
-         foodstamps
-         Medicaid
-         if living on campus, contact Williamsburg services; if living off-campus, contact social services for your respective locality—James City County, York County, etc.
