Rules
All players must turn in a waiver to attend practices and matches.
All players must also wear tennis shoes with non-marking soles.
The Constitution of the Tennis Club at the College of William & Mary
Article 1: NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Tennis Club at the College of William & Mary.
Article 2: PURPOSE
The purpose of this organization shall be to develop a community of trust and friendship by providing each member with an opportunity to enhance their enjoyment of tennis through recreational and competitive play as well as through off court social activities. Further, to represent the College of William & Mary honorably in all of its activites.
Article 3: MEMBERSHIP
Membership shall be open to all those students, alumni, administrators, faculty, and staff within the affiliation of the College of William & Mary.
Article 4: OFFICERS
The officers of this organization shall be President, Vice-President, Captain, and Treasurer. Other officers may be created by the Cabinet as needed. The Cabinet shall be comprised of the above mentioned officers. Only currently enrolled students at the College of William and Mary may hold office.
Article 5: DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS
Section 1: The President shall:
a) preside over all meetings of this organization.
b) act as Captain of his/her team.
c) ensure that all officers are effectively performing their duties.
d) act as a liason to the Recreational Sports office.
e) schedule matches.
f) inform members of all practices, meetings, and matches.
Section 2: The Vice President shall:
a) act as an aide to the President.
b) act as the President in his/her absence.
c) act as the secretary and historian
i. take the minutes of all Cabinet meetings
ii. take attendance at all practices
d) act as the social coordinator for off court events.
Section 3: The Captain shall:
a) preside over all practices.
b) establish and enforce a set practice routine.
c) maintain the ladders of his/her team.
d) be responsible for the equipment of the club.
Section 4: The Treasurer shall:
a) keep records of all the financial and budget related transactions.
b) order equipment for the club and its members, as advised by the Ladies and Gentlemen's Captains.
Section 5: The Cabinet shall:
a) establish a regular Cabinet meeting time.
b) establish regular practice schedules and assist with practices as necessary.
c) attend all Cabinet meetings and practices.
d) institute any additional officers that may be needed.
e) govern the club, giving it direction in policies and goals.
f) be dedicated to the well being of the club, ensuring that all participants enjoy themselves.
Article 6: ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS
Section 1: Election of the officers for the following year shall take place at the end of the fall semester.*
Section 2: A majority of votes from those present shall elect those officers.
Section 3: Should a Cabinet position become vacant, nominations and an election shall be held to fill that position.
*Transfer of power shall take place in the middle of the Spring Semester after Spring Break. The transfer shall be accompanied by a joint meeting of the incoming and outgoing Cabinets. To ensure a smooth transition, the outgoing Cabinet will assist the incoming Cabinet as necessary throughout the Spring Semester in order to acclimatize them to their positions.
Article 7: IMPEACHMENT
Should a Cabinet member fail to effectively perform his/her duties, the Cabinet has the option of removing him/her from their position. Impeachment of an officer requires a unanimous vote of all those officers who are not being impeached.
Article 8: DUES
Section 1: Dues shall be paid by each member of the organization each semester.
Section 2: The amount to be paid shall be decided on by the Cabinet.
Article 9: ATTENDANCE
Section 1: Attendance at no fewer than one practice per week shall be expected from all members. If any member is absent for a period of two consecutive weeks their membership will be revoked without refund of dues unless they can provide a legitimate excuse. In that event, reinstatement of membership shall require a unanimous vote of approval by the Cabinet.
Section 2: Attendance at all meetings and practices shall be required of all officers.
Section 3: Officers shall take into account absences, availability of players, and rankings based on ladder tournaments, when choosing members for match tournament play.
Article 10: AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Amendments to this constitution may be submitted by any member of this club. Such amendments shall be submitted in writing to any member of the Cabinet.
Section 2: Such proposed amendments shall be voted on at the next meeting.
Section 3: A unanimous vote of the Cabinet shall be necessary for the adoption of the amendments to this constitution.
Article 11: RATIFICATION
This constitution shall become effective upon ratification by a unanimous vote of the Cabinet.
