About TLSC

TLSC is a non-hierarchal group, meaning there are no designated officers or leaders. At the beginning of each meeting, a facilitator is chosen who will keep the meeting progressing and the discussions on topic. In addition, we have a note-taker, who records the important decisions and points-of-interest, and a timekeeper, who ensures that the agenda is adhered to. Decisions are made via consensus voting during which members can either approve or block a proposal or abstain from voting. One block results in further discussion on the proposal. Past successes include the Living Wage Campaign, Campus Union Recognition, and the Sweatshop-Free campus Campaign. During the Living Wage Campaign, WM students and faculty teamed up to support housekeepers and other staff, eventually pressuring the College to raise the starting wage to $8.29. During the Campus Union Recognition , TLSC supported campus employees in order to gain the College’s recognition for the campus employees’ chapter of UE 160 (the Virginia state employees’ union). During the Sweatshop-Free Campus Campaign, TLSC pressured the College to adopt a policy to protect the workers who produce College apparel. The policy is now being implemented.
