Crisis in Darfur

The two year conflict in the Sudan has affected 2.5 million families and devastated the lives of many more, mostly women and children. During the revitalization process, since a comprehensive peace agreement was reached, putting children first is crucial. Unicef has set up 133 health clinics in the region, vaccinated over 2 million children against measles, and provides clean drinking water daily to a million people.

The new emergence of polio is the biggest setback currently facing the Sudanese children. Although no cases were reported between 2001 and 2004, over 100 cases have sprung up in the past few months due to the lack of vaccinations that could get through during the occupation. W&M Unicef will be having fundraisers specifically for the Sudan. To learn what you can do on your own, visit Unicef USA.
