| Sunday Night Programs...
Sunday Night Programs (SNP's) are something of a main event at Wesley. Each week, members gather at the Wesley House from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for dinner, worship, and a program designed for faith related issues or fun. In the fall of 2007, Wesley was blessed with SNPs about Darfur in The Sudan, the Gospel according to Harry Potter, and the World Communion Worship Celebration. We also had the honor of hosting President Nichol and folk singer John McCutcheon, who discussed the importance of faith in their lives. But we don't shy away from having fun; we engaged in a goofy photo scavenger hunt, and tempered our yearly elections with a refreshing series of mocktails. Each Sunday, we come together for food, fellowship, and fun. Join us! Small Groups...
Christians grow best with others, so Wesley provides several ways for you to deepen your relationship with Christ and with sisters and brothers walking the Way of Christ. Here's what's happening each week this semester:
Frosh Bible Study (Chase Hathaway and Laura Shoop, leaders)
All freshmen are invited to check out Wesley's FBS (Freshman Bible Study). This semester we'll be spending about an hour a week studying various topics. They include discussions on heaven and hell, fasting, vocation, living a Christian academic life, and anything else we feel like talking about. The goal is to grow closer to one another and closer to Christ as we develop and share our lives. Meetings will most likely be Tuesday nights, but it remains to be decided. Contact Laura Shoop or Chase Hathaway with questions. We hope to see you there!!!!
Junior Bible Study (Melissa MacIntyre, leader)
The Junior Bible Study will be meeting again this semester on Thursday nights at 8:30pm. We are reading The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis two chapters at a time on our own, then discussing them when we meet. So Juniors, grab your copy of The Screwtape Letters and come ready to discuss chapters 3-4 on January 24th at 8:30pm. We'll congregate in Wesley's living room then move as a group to the basement. Email Melissa (memaci) to be put on the email list.
Seniors Group (David Hindman and Meg Roth, leaders)
The senior small group will be an opportunity for the Wesley class of '08 to spend time in fellowship with one another and pray about and discuss God's direction for our lives. Hopefully, whatever we choose to do as a group will grow us closer together and closer to God during this exciting, bittersweet last semester!
Holy Communion
This time of worship includes singing, prayer, scripture and a brief reflection on the Word, along with the Holy Meal.
"The Living Word" worship team (Chelsea Estancona and Nik Belanger, leaders)
In addition to these weekly meetings, these other groups will meet:
Lenten Study using “A Lenten Journey: Travels in the Spiritual Life Based on the Gospel of Mark”
This group will meet Tuesdays, 7:15 a.m. beginning February 6 (location TBD). The resource ($5) offers daily meditations and spiritual exercises for each day of Lent. We will use the Gospel of Mark as a guide, journal, and experience the "Inward Journey" through prayer and meditation and the "Outward Journey through reflection and action, using both ancient and modern devotional practices.”
Religion Courses Discussion Group (David Hindman, leader)
Taking a religion class (or a class that has a primary focus on religion) and want to talk about what you’re learning and how it impacts your faith? This group meets three times during the semester (basically once a month) and at the end, participants receive $50 as a small gift to help with book purchases. Social Events...
Wesley's Outreach Committee works hard throughout the year to bring exciting get-togethers for the Wesley community. There will undoubtedly be numerous Spontaneously Planned Exciting Events (SPEEs), as well. All social events are great ways to get to know people in Wesley and have a great time too. So come on out and have some fun with us! |
