Deathmatch! Deathmatch! Deathmatch!
If you haven't seen the Anime Club site yet, do so (http://www.wm.edu/SO/WMAS). Soon, we'll put on some flash stuff, and hopefully include the Deathmatch section that I discussed in the club yesterday. For those who were not there, I was discussing the possibility of using Flash 3 (a derivative of Shockwave) to do really fakey fights between anime characters for our entertainment.

Right now I would like to know whom you want to win. Just reply to this message or to section06@hotmail.com to make your choices known. The anime appearing is given when different from the name of the character.

Category Contestants
Most Annoying Laugh Vampire Princess Miyu vs. Naga (Slayers)
Staring Blankly Contest Ruri (Nadesico) vs. Rei (Evangelion)
Short Robot Men Rockman (aka Megaman) vs. Astroboy
Scantily Clad Robot Women Honey, Cutey vs. Armitage, Naomi
Most Powerful Sorcerer Inverse, Lina (Slayers) vs. Schneider, Dark (Bastard!)
Best Invisible Killer Galus (El Hazard) vs. Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)
Stupid Policewomen Mihoshi (Tenchi Muyo) vs. Nene (BGC)*
Businessmen with Bots Quincy (BGC)* vs. Ajo (Key the Metal Idol)
*"BGC" stands for "Bubblegum Crisis."

If there are any more questions (like who the heck these people are and what are these series), I will be ecstatic to answer them. Just send me a message. Once we get this going, we'll need people to do the scripts and stuff. If you want to do the Flash programming, we'll love you like siblings. We can get you a sort of legal copy of Flash 3 if you need it.

We in room 316 of Preston (the Club President/Autocrat and his roommate) were very pleased at the turnout yesterday. Glad you all could make it. To make sure you keep on coming back, we're looking into playing the stuff you're interested in. We're hoping to show Record of Lodoss War and some other stuff, but of course we have to "bump" some of the stuff we're currently showing (basically discontinuing it for at least the duration) to fit them in, or wait until the series are done. We have no set schedule, so we could alternate showings per week, show stuff every three weeks, or whatever. Tell us what you want, if we have it we've seen it already, so we're not all that picky.

Neko-con is still approaching, and if you have any vague interest in this convention please make it known so we can help you get there and enjoy it with all the hedonistic abandon that such conventions entail. Okay, so it's not hedonistic unless your idea of a bacchanalia is grape Slice while watching Hyper Police. I'll put the site URL down on today's e-mail anyway so you can check it out.

Since more people showed interest in the costume party than active disinterest, we're going to go ahead and form a committee to figure out what to do. If anyone's interested, please contact me so I can get you in touch with everyone else on the committee.

If you feel that you wanted to put something in this newsletter, and I published it too early, no problem. I can publish as many as you want with corrections, comments, etc. Just give me a day or so, and not on Fridays (people may not read it before the club meeting).
- Ben

Next Week's Showings:

Actually, next week's showings are up for grabs. Here's what we could play. Pick any three, or pick some and suggest your own so they make three. Titles are limited by availability.

El Hazard - Makoto sets off for the Forbidden Island to prevent Jinnai from awaking the demon robot babe Ifurita. We also find out more about Galus's separate agenda.

Slayers - Everything you thought was true last episode is wrong. Except that Lina's still cool.

Tenchi TV - For no good reason, alien women are attracted to Tenchi. I'm not sure he's worth fighting for, but hey, I'm not familiar with the hormone levels of aliens. Perhaps they need to be in a much more chemically active state to maintain endocrinological balance. Anyway, Tenchi's still trying to live a semi-normal life, despite the extraterrestrial house guests that keep showing up.

Record of Lodoss War - in the first episode, there's a war. We kid you not. It's got fantasy people and everything.

Ushio & Tora - the heartwarming story of an annoying brat and the vicious demon he has accidentally enslaved. They dislike each other with a vengeance, but get along well enough to fight the supernatural (but not to improve Ushio's love life any).

Galaxy Fraulein Yuna - What other television series has lesbian schoolgirls in giant robots with android roommates and friends with private armadas? This series is short, but hilarious. Not to mention visually psychedelic.

Web Sites of Interest:

http://www.eskimo.com/~nekocon/ - the Neko-con website. Check it out, and not only for the cat girl pictures, some of which are missing from the server.

http://www.pioneeranimation.com/ - this is Pioneer's American web site. If you want to know what Pioneer produces for the English language market in anime, here's where to go.

http://www.anime-int.com/bgc/index.html - I put the new Bubblegum Crisis site here again because it remains pretty darn cool. Check it out if you haven't already, but remember, this is the new series, so many characters look different (like Quincy doesn't look like a pimp any more, and Nene no longer has pink hair).

http://www.anipike.com/ - The Anime Web Turnpike. My favorite way to find information on a particular series.

If you want me to put up my Japanese language sites as well, I can oblige. Also, send me your URLs so there can be a bit more diversity (I tend to go exclusively to corporate sites).
