WMAS Newsletter #3

September 11, 1998

Let anime combat begin!

Seriously, I made up the informational sheets and today we voted on the victors of the undecided deathmatches (Godzilla was always going to flatten Chibi Usa, bizarre future love child of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, but it's better that way). The rankings are as follows:

Miyu vs. Naga - Miyu
Rockman vs. Astroboy - Rockman
Cutey Honey vs. Armitage - Armitage
Lina vs. Dark Schneider - Lina
Galus vs. Kusanagi - Kusanagi
Mihoshi vs. Nene - Mihoshi
Quincy vs. Ajo - Quincy (or Boomer proxy)
Staring Contest - Rei (Ruri talks too much)

Anyone willing to code or write scripts would be welcomed like only relatives can.

Well, I didn't discuss the cos-play, karaoke, or anything else people thought would be a good idea for the club to do, naturally assuming that those who were really devoted to the activities would e-mail me. If you have anything you want to see on this newsletter, please send it to me. Links would be appreciated.

The club web site is now totally up and running. It's still http://www.wm.edu/SO/WMAS, but now it's in Shockwave. Get the plugin and check out the site. It's not complete, but when are they ever? Help us out by contributing links for the links section and stuff for the stuff part. Thank our president Aaron for this ultimately cool site. The members page will be up when watashitachi no kachou (our president) figures out how he's going to put it up.

Just in case you were wondering, the meetings are still in Blair 223, Friday at 7 PM. Come or we'll be forced to activate the Eva unit that's hidden under the sunken gardens.

Finally, someone left a rainjacket in Blair. We have it right now. If you want it, respond to this message. It won't be going anywhere, unless you and the rainjacket are dimensionally unstable.

This Week's Quasi-Trivia Question:

The QTQ was an idea I had Tuesday night: why not ask the newsletter recipients a sort of opinion pollish trivia-style question in order to increase anime awareness? There are actually two questions: the easy one and the hard one. They have answers spawned by the imaginations of the club hierarchy. Both will change weekly. Correct respondents (just hit reply) will get recognition in next week's installment and on the web page.

HARD: If the Sailor Senchi were trapped in a cave, which one would they eat first?

or, if that's too hard,

EASY: Who’s sexier: Lilith or Morrigan?

Hints: "senchi" is Japanese for soldier, although in English the term "sailor senchi" is often rendered as "sailor scouts." In any case, they're Sailor Moon and the miniskirted young women under her banner. Lilith and Morrigan are both bat-winged succubus creatures from the video game Vampire Savior (formerly in the University Center basement) and the anime Darkstalkers. Neither of them wear skirts, although they shapeshift.

Web Sites This Week:

http://animevillage.com/ - Bandai’s American anime production company. They’re selling Bandai’s Japanese products subtitled by themselves and small distribution companies. Much of the stuff sold is exclusive to this site; much of it is right now at fire-sale prices. If you like Bandai’s anime (or Clamp Campus Detectives) check this out.

http://www.sailormoonstore.com/ - It calls itself the one stop shop for all your Sailor Moon needs. I kid you not. Nice design, though.

http://www.wm.edu/SO/WMAS - Our site, redesigned in anticipation of the almighty deathmatch.

Next Week's Showings:

We're working on a form to make anime selection easier. Right now, though, we saw Record of Lodoss War today, as well as Slayers and Galaxy Fraulein Yuna. We'll have a selection of five or six videos next week, which I'll probably explain in detail when we get there. Anyway, what we showed this week will be there, plus some of the stuff from the week before, and something new. If you have any special requests, tell me.

Contacting Me:

Please e-mail me at section06@hotmail.com. You can, of course, reply to this message. Please feel free to give me all your questions, comments, suggestions, and criticism. I do not mind questions asking me to explain references I've made. If you want to get off of this list, you should probably e-mail me, although I'd hate to let you go. If you leave, there's a 50% chance Shrodinger's cat will die. If you need to speak to me personally, call X6232.
