WMAS NEWSLETTER #12

November 17, 1998

"Yeah, it uses a nuclear power source, but it's the most efficient way to provide energy and the chances of any nuclear material coming loose are negligible."
    - a line that SHOULD have been in the "lines never mentioned in anime" web page I read
last night instead of most of the Ranma jokes.

Dear Club Members,
Lots of news today and not much fluff from me. There's to be a surprise for you guys, but I can't tell you what it is on pain of internal hemmoraging by thrown flora. It does not involve FTD-wannabe men in tuxedos or turbans, though.
Most important among our business today is whether we want a meeting on the twelfth of December. Technically it's exam time, but we can be there and with videos. Are you going to be busy studying then? If not, we can provide you with only the best in animated Japanese entertainment.
Next on our list are the conventions next semester. I'm not going to be here (more on that later), but on our list is Katsucon (Arlington, February 12 to February 14) and Animazement (Raleigh, NC March 19 to 21). Both are $30 for the weekend. Once you're there, you can't go back until the end, so budget your time accordingly. We promise we won't leave you here, Mike. As for everyone else, just stick to the with people with cars. Housing for Katsucon will be with the parents of people we know in the Northern Virginia area. Therefore, it's free. Animazement will require a hotel room. If we get into a large enough group for Animazement (10 people) we can get a discount on the admission, not the hotel.
Speaking of upcoming events, starting November 30 the Cartoon Network will be showing seventeen episodes of Sailor Moon never released professionally before in the US. It's dubbed, but it's fun. Check it out.
Next on the agenda is my absence. I'm going to Japan next semester, so I won't be around to do stuff like announce the voting and write the newsletter. Does anybody want to do this? Please respond.
Now, on the subject of the mascot. The following names have been submitted from the last trivia question:

I didn't make them up. If you have a better idea, tell me before this Friday's meeting, because we are voting then.
We meet on the inside of Washington Hall, up those black and ominous stairs, Friday at roughly 7 PM. WMHSMUN has kicked us out of Blair for the weekend.

- Ben

This Week's Quasi-Trivia Question

Last week's answers:
HARD - Check this Friday.
EASY - Miyu. She can make a little braid look evil. Miyaka never comes close.

This week's questions:

HARD: Name an energy source that melts in your mouth, not in your hand.
EASY: Better gymnastic ability - Tanya or Merle?

HINTS: The first one refers to some item that provides energy. It must be initially solid. And it's not Gel. Gel sublimates under room temperature.
Tanya is the girl who acts just like a cat girl in Battle Athletes but isn't. Merle is actually a cat girl, and she's from Escaflowne. Who does better gymnastics?

Web Sites of the Week:

http://204.31.36.2/chocobo.html - Chocobo country. Has to be seen to be believed.

http://www.chantech.com/sunny/SMImage/Love.html - A gallery of Sailor Moon pictures where various Sailors do relatively romantic shojou things.
