Message from that Guy
First, I would like to say that I am very proud of all of you for being so good this week. I did not leave feeling intensely upset at your factional ways. You do the anime community proud.
In this week's roleplaying game, Kumako lay in the dungeons of the Otherverse, tormented occasionally by the sinister Lord Oreck. Then she was subject to a meeting with the Queen of the Otherverse which left her feeling scared in a creepy sort of way. Our characters should save her quickly.
On board the HMS Chemise, Isabelle set the ship on a course for Russia, but they were waylaid by flying sky pirates like the kind found in Tale Spin. During that battle, Kumiko discovered that she truly loved Outpost Cape, and Mercedes died. Fortunately, Aoi went completely ballistic, and killed everything else before anyone else died. Unfortunately, this involved channeling much energy through Sparky the Penguin, killing it. We respect his sacrifice.
So Outpost Cape scored with Kumiko, and her sponsors temporarily revoked her powers until she passes a purity test. The Chemise crashed in Mongolia, and the characters were forced to eat Mercedes's body...
If you didn't know already, I'm making this all up. Only one person showed up by 1:30, and two by 1:45. Where were you guys? SUNDAY, 1 PM.

Tina's Corner
Hey folks! It's your all so stressed out Secretary here. First let me recap all the videos we watched last week. We started off with Maze
(followed by the Maze cosplay skit that won first place at Nekocon for the Novice level), than we watched Galaxy Fraulein Yuna (which
reminded me of SailorMoon on crack), and ended with Saber Marionette J. All in all, we had fun like always. But a note for those that
didn't make it, we did video tape the cosplay skit so if you want to watch it, please call >(*.*)< for more information.
Also the chair for a local Science-fiction Con stopped by and informed us about a local convention held here in Williamsburg. Yes, that
would be Marscon 2000. There will be LARPs, games, and artshow, free food, and much more stuff that is all listed on their webpage at
www.angelfire.com/va/marscon/ Early registration ends very soon, like now so be sure to check it out. I will mention that the con will be
held the weekend before dorms reopen, but that hotel fare is cheap and since you have to be in Williamsburg after the con anyway . . .
who knows.
The convention chair is also looking for anyone who would be willing to volunteer their services to work at the Con. Please check your
schedules or make them.
On a side note, these are the people who still owe me money for the hotel fee for Nekocon:
Mike Canada
King Chan
Kevin Christie
Pay me $40.10 or you won't be getting any M&M's from me.
Also three cheers for Tedd for finally coming to an Anime club meeting. We love you, really we do. That's why we pester you.

Happy, Happy >(*_*)< Time
Didn't we just back from Nekocon?  Yes we did, but that still won't stop me from bugging you guys about Katsucon now.  For those of you who missed your Con fix last time around or just need more (like your truly,) Katsucon 6 is going on Febuary 11 - 13 in Arlington, VA.  I'm harassing you all early about this one because the group rates are a pretty good deal and we'd like to deal with hotel stuff early since the Hyatt Regency, where the Con is being held, fills up real quick.  Katsucon 6 is also a good deal bigger than Nekocon, so you should be able to find whatever you want there.  For more info, visit the links section of this webpage.

In other news, Craig sent me an Otaku purity.  Being that I was in a rather frisky mood at the moment, I took it.  I'm about 37.5% tainted.  I think it'd be kind of fun to see how everyone in the club compares.  So, if you too are feeling frisky go to the links section and take the test, then send your results.  We'll probably post them in the next newsletter.

One final bit, Ann Minarick is considering doing a paper/project on feminism in anime and manga.  See wants to hear suggestions on useful series and manga to research.  So, if any of you have any suggestions be sure to tell her and help her ace her project.  Her e-mail address is axmina@mail.wm.edu Thanks.

Librarian's Lair
Here's a quick t-shirt update, and hopefully the last for a while until
they're almost ready. I've got plenty of reference photos of the WMAS
community, so this should be the last update before I send off all we've got
to our selfless designer. The t-shirt will probably be navy blue or green
line-art on possibly gray shirt material. We thought this would provide the
best balance between low cost and aesthetic sensibility. As always, if you
have other ideas, let us know.
Everyone who is even considering ordering a shirt, decide by the next
meeting who your "avatar" will be--which anime character will you choose to
represent yourself. Be prepared to compromise in case someone else wants
the same character. If anyone has any further comments or questions
regarding the shirt, talk to me or Tina. I quite enjoy randomly
encountering WMAS members around on Campus. He are here to serve you. Just
don't ask what the green stuff is.

Joe Mama's Smack Down of the Week
You know that they're always gotta make the brother be the first one to die in movies. Just look at Saber Marionette J, he didn't even live long enough to be one of the six survivors and carry his own proud heritage into its own country.

Poll Question:
THIS WEEK: Which five Yuna characters would you like most to date (we don't care what your actual sexual preference is)?

Quasi-Trivia Questions:

EASY: Better cook: Lime or that old prime-minister guy from the labyrinth who shows up in the opening of Maze and is therefore a major character, but whose name I refuse to look up because I'm a guy and will not stop for directions either?

HARD: If a marrionette is walking around in a forest and no one is around to hear it, do its feet squeak?
