Ben's Den of Love
(one week with mind control powers and some people
never let you forget your excesses...I mean, nobody remembers
about the evil super-villain plots I foiled, do they now? It's
always the room full of chicks...)
Hey everyone! Just wanted to pass along that we are ready for
Miyu whenever you are. I project a starting time of next week,
6:30-ish. Those who are interested in doing major character's
voices (as opposed to GIRL WITH JACKET or SCREAMING GIRL) please
e-mail me (that's section06@hotmail.com, like always). If you
just want to do a minor voice, show up and they will be assigned
first-come, first served. Please note that chapters 1-3 have a
LOT of minor voices, and the others really don't, so the minor
voice population is best served early on.
What I want to see from you while making my major character
choices are A) what character you would like, B) how many people
you would kill in a murderous rage if you were not to get that
character, C) if you know the character from the OAV series, how
you would play him or her (remembering that they all talk), and
D) any other choices you may have if your primary is unavailable.
If I get many, many applications for the 5 recurring parts and
the fewer major one-time characters I will make sure that no one
is incredibly disappointed. If you have a strange or unusual
phone number that I can't get to via the campus directory, you
may want to tell me so if I have to call people to listen to
their voices (or drop by randomly, if you prefer -- just tell me
what times are good). The available recurring parts are:
·MIYU - our 40+ schoolgirl vampire in
a 14-year-old's body. Waxes both giggling and melancholy. As far
as I can tell, there are three modes to Miyu. There's the
"dang I wish I was still human hug me Larva" mode, the
"now shinma you die" mode, and the "I'm feeling
childish, petty, and denied right now so you will be
miserable" mode. The voice should be able to distinguish all
of these.
·LARVA - He's tall, he's from the
West, and he does manservant well. Larva tends to talk like a
European intellectual, and if someone can give me that or a
similarly convincing voice, that would be cool.
·MIYU'S MOM - My only criteria for
Miyu's Mom is that she not sound like my mom. This is really
easy.
·KAORU - He's a teenage guy, very
sensitive, kinda cute, and is played as the love interest for a
very important character in the fifth chapter, with a short
reappearance in the sixth.
·OTHER GIRL - She's a schoolgirl. She
may actually be many schoolgirls; I use her for all dark-haired
girls with bobs. Do you sound like a cheerful schoolgirl? Then
perhaps Other Girl is for you.
One-time characters who get major amounts of text in their
stories are:
·AYA (chapter 1) - poor teenaged
orphan who is raised by her aunt. Her sister dies in the first
five pages, and this gives her the requisite angst for Miyu.
·SHOU (chapter 2) - the
heart-meltingly hunky sempai of the middle school. Everybody
wants to be Shou's girl, even Miyu, although her dating tactics
are a little different...
·CHIAKI (chapter 2) - Just a normal,
cheerful schoolgirl with an interest in tennis and young men. You
may think you know what's up with this part, but the voice for
Chiaki doesn't have to scream.
·LEMURES (chapter 3) - Although he's
both gay and a shinma, I think the best descriptor for where I
see Lemures's voice going is "total psychopath." He's a
very dangerous creature.
·YURI (chapter 4) - A girl in her
first year at boarding school, and she doesn't like it. Has a
love for her brother that borders on the seriously unhealthy.
·MANAMI (chapter 6) - Another
cheerful schoolgirl. What happens to her is surprising, but still
satisfying to Miyu fans.
·FUMIYA (chapter 6) - Another one of
those really attractive popular schoolboys who seem to be endemic
to Japan's public school system.
Those are all of the major characters; the much publicized
"Yui-chan" (chapter 1) and "Shinma Lord"
(chapter 5) will be just given away to whomever so desires.
In other news, we're all very impressed here in the Anime Cave
about the Legend of the Five Rings RPG, but there's nothing even
speculative going on with it yet. Let me just say that it seems
to be some of the most potential fun since Kenshin got a safe
sword he could hit people with just for fun.
I am now the proud owner of 4 yards of suit material and some
clothing patterns. I will order a sweater anon and I have stopped
shaving. You all owe me big for my being Gendo. But I think
playing a couple rounds of the Eva card game will make it up to
me. Sure, it's in Japanese, but that's all part of why it's fair
this way.
Tina's Palace of Pleasure
Hey folks, it's been a whole month, but we finally got
to see some more Anime! Let's recap what we saw for the first
meeting of this semester: Slayers Next, Maze, and Mahou
Tsukaitai! I would like to say that I really, really think
Jeff-kun is really cute! ^_^ I want one! Tune in next week for
whatever you guys vote in, same time, same place.
For all those that are new comers this semester, or just
neglected to pay member dues last semester, they are $5 and give
you access to the library. Unfortunately, Mike is taken, so you
don't have that kind of access to the Librarian. If you would
like to support Tina's Palace of Pleasure, please give me money.
I'm still currently taking applications for all of those
interested.
Also, those who would be interested in writing some reviews for
the WMAS webpage, please email Aaron at aseigo@hotmail.com. He is
currently working very diligently on updating the webpage and
once that's done, we will finally have a place for all those
member bios (if you turned yours in) as well as information about
the items in the library, and reviews about various Animes. All
served to you with the wonderful speed of Ethernet (unless you're
not on campus like me :P). And ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
My last note refers to the rumour that I'm going to kill some
people. I'm not going to verify it, but I'm not going to deny it
either. :)

Two and a half weeks to go! Two and a half weeks to
go! I you don't know what I'm talking about, then you haven't
been paying attention to me since last semester. Yes, Katsucon is
in two and a half weeks. That's right, it's time to get those
costumes ready, to practice those lyrics you want to sing for
karaoke, and, of course, save the money that you intend blow in
the dealer's room.
Now, I would appreciate it if people would tell me whether or not
they need accommodations in Arlington. We've reserved one hotel
room so far, and it's debatable whether or not we can get another
one, so we'd like to know if anyone has any objections to
stuffing as many people as possible into a single room or
crashing at the house of somebody who happens to live near or in
Arlington.
In other related news, Adam Gieseler, Kara Husson, and Ann
Minarik, you are the folks who still owe me $30 for Con
registration. If you have suddenly decided not to go, please tell
me as soon as possible. (That's why we have the How to Contact
your Officers part at the bottom of the newsletter, right?)
Anyway, people who want to go to Katsucon, but haven't been
registered yet, pre-registration is over, but you can still
register at the door for $40.
One last thing, cosplayers, if you haven't started your outfits
yet, start! The con's in two and a half weeks! Two and a half
weeks! (Wow, it seems that I'm back where I started, maybe I
should just stop while I'm ahead.)

Hey folks, nice first meeting! We even saw something
new. So who else believes Jeff-kun has sinister ulterior motives?
Over the weekend, I'd like to arrange a special viewing marathon
(maybe over two days) of what we saw last year of Revolutionary
Girl Utena. I didn't make this clear in the last newsletter,
but I have an additional tape (3 episodes) not seen last year
that wraps up the first third of the series. E-mail me if you've
got a preference for a particular day and we'll discuss this
during next meeting for anyone who's interested.
Also, I would like to remind everyone to get in their T-shirt
avatars to me as soon as possible. The following people and
