News From That Guy
Damn, I'm lazy. Well, too lazy to write my piece of the
newsletter on
time, but still willing to do my massive amount of anthro reading. I'm
selectively lazy. Hm.
I've gotten a lot of response on "Utena: Dance Dance
Revolution," mostly
from people looking to do voices and/or sing. Let me reiterate: I KNOW
you guys wanna do voices! Believe me! And I'll seriously try to
accommodate everyone in some role. As for singing, we're using
pre-recorded music (from other series, no less), and that's pretty much
set. I'll get everyone interested in scripting on a mailing list, and
we'll work out a time when we can all get together and riff the episode
to get good jokes ... or at least to get jokes. Whether they're good or
not comes later.
Also, for those of you familiar with White Radish, Shawn the Touched
will be moving to the area soon (before the end of the semester, unless
hell freezes over or something). For those of you who don't know, Shawn
is the mastermind behind "Fast Food Freedom Fighters" ... he
now does
his own animation. At the moment, he is looking for artists to help him
with his new project, "Pink Lemonade." Please don't ask about
voices.
^^; When he finishes the move, he can come to meetings and show/tell
you more. I hope some of you will be able to help!
'Til next time, I'm That Guy, and this is essentially a complete waste
of time. But it was fun, wasn't it? Of course it was.
Presidential Address
Hey Clubmembers!
The first thing I'd like to announce is that the title of this weeks
newsletter is the soon-to-be-released supplement to the Guardians of
Order RPG Big Eyes, Small Mouth, which as you know is the system I
am using for the roleplaying game here as well. I sent a bunch of e-mails
out on Saturday and Sunday regarding the game; if you weren't one of the
blessed and would like to be, e-mail:
sigma@cs.wm.edu
for more details. As I said before, it's somewhere between a Fushigi Yuugi-style "little girl lost in strange world" fantasy romp and Golgo 13 or Banana Fish, which are not in the prior genre.
Still doing Hakkenden; I'll try to be there, but I guarantee you'll get the transparencies and scripts, along with the manga to orientate yourself should I not be there. I misspelled my web page last tiem; it's chokinghazard.tripod.com, as in a "choking hazard." So, this week, we read from http://chokinghazard.tripod.com/hakkenden/shak3.htm , which I titled "Aboshi’s Carnality, Hamaji’s Affection."
Our characters are as follows:
· SIDEBAR - our trusty narrator. He/she gets to make some witticisms this time.
· FUNAMUSHI (foo-nah-moo-shee) - the long suffering field marshal of the youkai (I translate "demons, lit. "phantoms") in charge of Yuuki Castle and recovering the Murasame. Still a female part.
· MESSENGER DEMON - still kicked around. Androgenous. We can have more than one this time; they speak in unison.
· ABOSHI - a male demon who is also a total perv. Read the translation and you'll see why.
· SHINO - still a woman with a man's persona. Angry, angry, angry.
· SOSUKE - still the dumbest spear savant in Awa, and still nigh-indestructible.
· HAMAJI - Shino's long lost love. Well, in Hamaji's eyes she is Shino's long lost love, anyway.
If you really want to know your lines, print out your own copy in advance, so I don't have to run down my quota at the library and be forced to format my essays in LaTeX in the comp. sci. lab.

Alright, here's what we need to do for convention stuff. If you want to register as a group, I need your money by Wednesday,September 27. So, to confirm that you want to go to the con, either give me the money ($30) or, if you are in a financial conundrum, come talk to me and we can see what we can work out. The hotel costs will, of course, depend on the number of people going and the number of people per room. The rooms are about $72 per night. With four people per room for two nights, that comes out to $36 for the weekend. Of course, if we stick Mike in a drawer, we can fit more people in a room and reduce the cost even more if necessary. Don't worry about the hotel reservations and the transportation, we'll be figuring that out. Just make sure you are getting registered. This is the list of people who said that they were interested in going to Nekocon. If you want on or off this list, let me know.

The people with *'s beside their names said that they were interested in doing cosplay. Again, if my info is wrong, let me know. Sometime soon, we'll see about all getting together and having a meeting concerning what we're going to do for the cosplay and how to get everything together.
And, no. I won't be putting a funny costume of Thomas Jefferson this week. Choir is dragging me off to sing for the Parent's Weekend Concert. But, don't worry. We will be dressing him up funny again.
Tina's Cul-de-sac
Hey folks! Thanks for those that already paid member dues. You guys are great!
Now some of you all are probably wondering what this money is going towards. Well . . . we hold dances, we buy food, and we pay for things that you want to do!
One of the things that we were thinking about planning this year, (which is totally new) is to hold an Anime Club Garage Sale. Here's the deal, everyone who wants to sell a video, manga, or anything Anime can sell it! We were thinking about doing this at the end of the semester and basically those who want to have things sold would give it to us with the price they want it for and we'll put it on the table for everyone to buy. We're still juggling the idea around and whether or not we would make this event campus wide. Email me and tell me what you think: txliux@wm.edu :)
Librarian's Lair of Miscellany
How's it going everyone? Things are pretty good over here at Japanese House. A few more people have talked to me about offering things to be put in the "library" (which has outgrown Preston 316). There's a lot of good stuff--some of it is really interesting and great to see. Some of it... well... it's an interesting moment when the officers have to sit down and spend a couple of minutes discussing policy on yaoi of undetermined content in the library (if you don't understand what's meant by yaoi... no problem...). We're being fairly liberal, in general. Hentai... well, let's hope we don't have to cross that bridge... At least that's what I'm hoping.
Moving on, I'll update the inventory soon and when we update the WMAS webpage, we'll try putting a version of it online. We live to serve. Are you being served?
