About T/TAC

The goal of the Virginia Department of Education's T/TAC at the College of William and Mary is to improve the educational opportunities for school-age students with mild/moderate disabilities by providing a variety of services and assistance to educational professionals that enhance their professional practices. These services, generally free of charge, are provided through a collaborative format with teams of educational professionals in order to build their capacity to serve school-age students with mild/moderate disabilities.

Mission
T/TAC W&M is part of a statewide system of training and technical assistance centers whose mission is to:

  • Increase the capacity of school personnel, service providers, and families to meet the needs of children and youth with disabilities

  • Foster the state improvement goals for personnel development that address improving the performance of children and youth with disabilities by enhancing the knowledge, skills, abilities, and performance of all personnel who work with them

Priorities
The T/TACs and VDOE support:

  • Personnel development that fosters access to the general education curriculum and achievement in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities

  • Schools in meeting Virginia's accreditation standards

  • Personnel to prepare school-age students with disabilities for graduation or completion of a program in preparation for postsecondary life

  • Local education agencies in making adequate yearly progress in compliance with the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and state standards in its work toward the goals identified by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA)
