At the beginning of the twentieth
century magazine advertising had become quite sophisticated
(see below) with attention paid to eye-catching images,
layout, and slogans. At the same time nationally distributed
brands became established. Many of the companies below and in
the Good Housekeeping list of advertisers (right)
still flourish today.
