Portion of a chart of the James River by Dutch cartographer Johannes Vingboons. The engraving dates to 1639 but probably was drafted based on information collected in 1617. “Bermotho Citie” is represented by three house symbols on the City Point peninsula. This season we hope to explore several areas in the old City Point section of Hopewell that might correspond to the small pre-1622 English settlement of Bermuda City/Charles City.
