During the 1781 Yorktown campaign, French officer Jean-Nicholas Desandrouins drafted a map of the Williamsburg area. Keeping in mind that north is to the left, the main road that runs diagonally from lower left to upper right is probably the predecessor of present Quarterpath Road. The Site 44JC969 slave quarter area is probably represented by the structure (black dot) next to the woods across the road from the larger complex labeled Southalls Quarter.
